Helen Ballam
Ward manager, Newmarket Community Hospital
...I'm known for having a vision for our community hospital in Newmarket.
There’s so much potential as part of West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust. Uniting our community services with our acute partners is hugely beneficial for our patients. It’s an exciting time to join us, that’s for sure.
In our community setting we take care of the person, not just the patient. Therefore we offer holistic recovery and rehabilitation. Nothing is too much trouble and I’m proud to say I’m part of it.
We go the extra mile for our patients, and I also go the extra mile to assist my wonderful colleagues. I support the individual needs of my student nurses and am proactive in ensuring they get the training and guidance they need to progress in their careers.
It’s difficult to juggle a career as a single mum and to train to become who you want to be. I was over 50 when I returned to practice as a nurse, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It’s never too late!
